Strip-Till Field Day features equipment demonstrations

Attendees of Nexus Co-op’s Strip-Till Field Day walk toward strip-till implements to view strip-till demonstrations.

MFU sponsored Nexus Coop’s Strip-Till Field Day in Rose Creek on August 12th. The day opened with a talk from Extension soil health expert Jodi DeJong-Hughes, where she explained the differences of tillage instruments such as disks, coulters and chisels, and shared about the soil types in Minnesota and how that affects farming.

Later, farmers on a panel shared their experiences with strip-tillage and gave helpful insights such as the importance of guiding technology for strip-till farming.

After lunch, demonstrations of ten strip-till implements took place, where attendees could see the tillage in action and assess the soil afterwards. Jodi DeJong-Hughes gave insights about the differences in the way the soil was tilled after each demonstration. Over 50 people attended the field day and walked away from the event with a better understanding of the nuances of strip-till.
